At least 40 people and wounded 75 others in a car bomb attack on a crowded market in Iraq's southern city of Diwaniyah. Four people were killed and a dozen wounded when a car bomb exploded in a popular market in Karbala, South of Baghdad, targeting Shiite falsely.

Iraqi officials say that at least 33 people were killed and dozens wounded in a string of explosions Tuesday in central Iraq.

MP Mohammad Al-Mussawi, two bombs exploded in a vegetable market early Tuesday morning in the city of Karbala, were killed in the explosion of five people and injuring 30.

The blast occurred at a time when Karbala-from Baghdad about 90 km to the South-to the arrival of thousands of Shiite pilgrims during the weekend.

Also reportedly killed three people and wounded 15 others in the town of Taji because of two explosions. Among the dead were a police officer.

Is Taji-which includes the military base — about 20 kilometers (12 miles) North of the Iraqi capital.

Reuters says that an explosion occurred in the town of Diwaniyah III, in which dozens were killed and injured.

The escalating attacks have increased in the past few weeks, Iraq fears the country sliding back into large-scale violence.

Last month killed 237 people and injured 600 in bomb attacks.

The worst attacks occurred on June 13, while Shiites were targeted by visitors, and killed more than 70 people.

And locked in the current Iraqi coalition Government which includes Shiites and Kurds and a political crisis threatening the fragile power sharing.
